20 Hot Tips to Succeed as a Blogger – Tip 12: Treat it like a Business
Blogging is a business, so treat it like one. Gone are the days when Blogging was regarded as a mere hobby, log or journal, it has become a Business; for those who truly want to become successful as bloggers.
Today, I’ll be getting down with the successful aspect blogging that has to do with MONEY! Because, it has become the main driver for the largest percentage of the Blogosphere; which Technorati reported to currently comprises 133 million blogs.
Even though, I love to say that MONEY is actually just a part of the things that makes a successful blogger. It still should not be denied that, it’s indeed an integral part.
Alright, let me get down to what I want to share with you in this part.
Blogging a Business
Blogging has totally evolved into a full blown Business with a huge capital base, magnificent revenue and shareholders (of which you happen to be one), spread all over the world. And like the shareholder that you are; the amount of dividend you’ll get out of blogging, will largely depend on the amount of resources (time, energy and money), you invested into the business.
But of course, the amount of time, energy and money you’ll really be willing and able to invest into blogging, depends greatly on your perception of what your blog and blogging activities really represents. If you let yourself believe that it’s a mere passing interest, something to while away time or something that doesn’t need much investment, it will definitely limit your will and ability to really invest big into blogging. Then, it also means you shouldn’t be expecting anything far more than your investment.
What do I really mean by treating your blog/blogging as a business? To answer this question, I think we need to look at what a business is and how you’ll treat a business you are target to achieve the goal your blog or you as a blogger is currently targeting.
What is a Business?
Business in this context refers to the principal activity in your life that you do to earn money. Now, if your blogging activities were replaced to represent the principal activities you do to earn money, will you really say that your current level of investment can give you the level of dividend that you desired? If your answer is no! Then you need to go back to the drawing board.
Let me give you an analogy, why should you stick your neck out there at that party or in the cinema when you honestly know you are supposed to be working on some aspect of your blog. Oh! That’s so simple; you can always do that later, right? Ok, tell me would you have decided to stay a single more minute there, if you were to be having a business meeting with the board of directors of the company that just awarded a contract to you? I’m sure we all know the answer to that!
I hear you saying; all works and no play no make jack a dull boy, but my response is; plays misplaced will cost you so much success, especially with Blogging.
Unquestionably, we all know that business is like the SEED of a tree; you must find a fertile land where to sow it, you must dig and plant the SEED, after which you’ll have to keep watering it until a certain age when the SEED grows into a tree that “to some extent” can take care if itself, at which point your effort becomes so little while all you do is wait for the right season to begin harvesting the many fruits of the three. The same is true for Blogging as it relates to your adventure in it.
Or maybe you are saying; well I’m not into blogging to make money. Cool, but seriously, developing the business mentality I’m talking about will profit you a great deal in every area of blogging; if you are really building a blog you expect to achieve whatever it’s aims are.
Final Word
So, finally if you wish to make a successful business out of blogging, you better begin to treat it like a business. I have already shared with you much tips in the regards, in the previous part of this post series and it will do you a lot of good to read them; if you have not already done that.
