Interview with Iyabo Oyawale; Nigerian Adsense and Quit your Day Job Queen!
My Dear, how was your weekend? Hope you had a cool one. However it was, I’m here to lighten you up with another highly inspiring interview. I know you must be wondering who I’m featuring this time, come on don’t be in haste, you already know if it’s on dayoedunjobi.com then it’s gonna be hot.
Like, I love to say; there can never be a hiding place for a golden fish in the river. We are featuring another Golden Fish today. She is a wife, a mother, an experienced blogger and above all a highly successful web entrepreneur. I’m talking about the one and only “Nigerian Adsense and Quit your day job Queen”; Iyabo Oyawale. I can’t do a better job of introduction than she’s already done herself, so I’ll just let you read it in her own words.
Please, come along as I present to you a very interesting and exclusive interview I had with her recently. I’m not hoping, I’m damn sure you’ll enjoy it, so have fun as you read through!

DE: Please tell us about yourself; background, interest etc.?
IYABO: I’m Iyabo Oyawale, married with kids, a ‘retired but not tired journalist,’
Internet Marketer, Author, Publisher, etc. My interests involve surfing the internet, reading and writing. I have authored 3 Books: namely: How to Become an Internet Millionaire, How to Quit your Day Job Without any Regrets Whatsoever, 21 Keys to Financial Success. Before I started my Internet and Publishing business, I was a practicing journalist. That was why I initially referred to myself as a ‘retired but not tired journalist’ because I find aspects of journalism in what I currently do. I practiced journalism for over 12 years, 10 of which was spent at City people Magazine. I actually resigned from City People as Deputy Editor of City People Quarterly (one of the City People titles).
DE: We’ll also like you to tell us about your site/blog/forum/startup?
IYABO: I resigned my job 4 years after I got to know about Internet business and started a couple of successful ventures online. I thought it would be a nice idea to give back to the society by teaching others how to replicate my success. That was the idea behind the setting up of my blog-www.askiyabooyawale.com. Please note that that I did not start my Internet Business by teaching people how to do Internet Business. I had practiced whatever theory I knew about Internet business before proceeding to teach others. The first information product I sold in my life was titled: “How to Successfully Start Your Dream Business with Little or No Money” based on my own experience whereby I started my Internet Business with N10, 000 only in 2003. That manual was strictly offered to the Nigerian market because I knew there was (and still is) a market in Nigeria. It sold like crazy with high profit margins and then I did another manual on 101 Businesses You Can Do Without Quitting Your Day Job. This too did well and all these were offered on the Internet. Since then, I have done several other successful businesses on the Internet and here am I today. That is why I believe that anybody can run a profit online. Now, I started my Internet business part-time. I will go to my day job and return at night to face what I was trying to build. Then, I used to call myself an employee by day and entrepreneur by night. Those were really heady days as I won’t sleep for days but I endured all the sacrifice because I knew I had a Destiny to fulfill.
DE: Like how long have you been involved in this online thing and how old is your site/blog/forum/startup?
IYABO: Since 2003 but like I initially said I started the blog-www.askiyabooyawale.com and forum-http://naijanetwarriors.com much afterwards. I started them after I had registered some success online and felt comfortable teaching others. Those 2 sites were basically to give people who want to do Internet business a sense of direction by giving them the right information, the right tools, the right network for online success.
DE: What impact would you say your site/blog/forum/startup is making on its target audience?
IYABO: I think that’s left for my blog readers and forum members to say.
DE: What was the inspiration behind the creation of the site/blog/forum/startup?
IYABO: Like I earlier said, they were set up basically to give people who want to do Internet business a sense of direction by giving them the right information, the right tools, the right network and mentorship for online success.
DE: How have you been able to keep the inspiration alive?
IYABO: I see what I do as a ministry and not as a business because anything that transforms one’s status (financial or otherwise) can be regarded as a ministry. This way I have been able to keep the inspiration alive. But if I saw what I do as a business, I’d be discouraged by the slightest challenge. I see myself as bearing a message for people which I must not but share.
DE: What would you say is the secret behind the success you have been able to achieve thus far?
IYABO: The grace of the Almighty, hardwork (I’m typing this at 1am, can you imagine that?), persistence, a never-say-die attitude and of course, my family support.
DE: What have been the greatest challenge(s) you have face along the line and how have you been able to surmount them?
IYABO: My greatest challenges in this business have been that of NEPA and internet connectivity (you can’t imagine the number of Internet modems I have bought!..lol). I got a Generator to tackle the NEPA palaver and presently I browse using Starcomms Izap. It’s okay for now.
DE: What do you think are the limitations still preventing you from attaining your most desired level of success (if any) and how do you intend to combat them?
IYABO: I don’t believe anything can limit one from attaining his or her desired level of success. Whatever you want to become in your life is within your power. If you limit yourself, you are limited, if you see yourself as unlimited, then that’s what you are. There are no limitations anywhere. Richard Bach said: “those who win are those who Think they can.” Henry ford also said: “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
DE: Since you quit your day job in 2007, has there been any day when you feel like; I think I might have to take up another job?
IYABO: Nope.
DE: You happen to be a patriot of “Quit your day Job”. Why do you believe that many Nigerian can survive without their day job? Do you think the Nigerian Internet Market place is matured enough to employ enough people that quit their day job?
IYABO: The only reason I am a champion of the “Quit Your Day Job” message is because I see so many people who have high-paying jobs but are inwardly unhappy because they are not fulfilling their God-given purpose. I want to encourage these set of people that they can still do what God created them to do. That is why I am passionately spreading this message. I see it as a pure waste of life for people to come to this world and die without fulfilling the purpose for which they were created.
DE: I know you are a wife and a mother, how have you been able to cope with the challenges of caring for your husband, taking care of the children, seminars here and there, administering your Forum, and lots other of your highly Demanding Internet activities?
IYABO: It’s not easy, most times, I work late into the night but I thank God, my family has been (and continues) to be supportive.
DE: Do you have any ongoing project(s) that we should watch out for?
IYABO: My 3rd book titled 21 Keys to Financial Success is out. Get a copy as well as my 1st and 2nd books.
DE: What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneur/bloggers or people out there hoping to quit there day job and build a successful business model like yours?
IYABO: It can be done. It just demands a lot of sacrifice, hardwork, persistence, an ability to learn and apply what is learnt. And most importantly, the grace of God. But please, don’t quit until you have a full grasp of what you are doing. Remember, I didn’t quit until after 4 years. Start running a profit before you quit because it can be frustrating, to quit the certain for the uncertain. IYABO: You are trying, keep it up!
DE: On a final note, what would you like to tell your users, fans, clients, readers and/or followers?
IYABO: Be on the look out for Iyabo Oyawale because by the grace of the Almighty, my best is yet to come.
DE: Thank you very much, for your time and we wish you the best of luck!
IYABO: My pleasure.
